WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?

Yom Hazikaron is Israel's Official Memorial Day for her fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. Falling this year on May 7, Yom Hazikaron is an especially solemn time and marked by ceremonies and silences across the country.

It is important for Jews from around the world to honor their memory too. These young men and women sacrificed their lives…they did it for Jews not just in Israel but from around the world.

STORIES OF FALLEN HEROES

We must remember the heroes who paid the greatest price for our people. Each fallen hero has a story.

Matan Gottlieb

Matan was born on the eve of the holiday of the giving of the Torah, Shavuot, and hence his name. On November 24, 2011, he joined the Paratroopers Brigade. During Operation Tzuk Eitan, during a search for a tunnel in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, the booby trapped building of the UNRWA clinic exploded and collapsed on the soldiers. Matan fell on 3 Av, July 30, 2014.
